The start was a normal adventure for Good Friday. We were joined by Jeff Allsebrook. Brian Saville was taking his family and not taking part in the Munro bagging extra on the way north.
There was the usual breakfast in Stirling and then on to a wild camp. This time the target was Ben Macdui. We left the car (Phil’s ICL company Cavalier again) at the Lynn of Dee and took the track out toward Derry Lodge. It was abandoned then (it hasn’t changed in 2016), but in the 2000s there have been suggestions of reopening it as some sort of hostel. We must have walked quite a bit further before setting up camp. Overnight the weather turned to rain and the following day was miserable, but that has never deterred this group.
The week was a bit low on Munro bagging. Ben Hope being an exception, but we had plenty of good hikes. Gordon’s first trip to Handa Island was on this trip. Summits included Arkle, Foinaven, Cul Mor. Also a walk to Ben Stack.
There are few recollections about the accommodation, but it was fine I’m sure. I cannot identify many of the locations. Maybe somebody can help.
