Gordon’s second Easter in Scotland. Dave Wharton had moved to California for an indefinite period. Gordon joined Phil Broughton and Brian Saville in Manchester having flown from Los Angeles overnight the day before. They broke with tradition and did not camp on the way North, but bagged Ben Lomond on the Way. It was a miserable drive with a very wet ascent of the hill, but the following week was glorious. Temperatures is the 20ºC range for the next 7 days.

We filled the house to overflowing and Gordon had to sleep on a camp bed in the same room as Gordon Cooper. This was the first time that Gordon really got to know his namesake.

This was an absolutely spectacular week with some great successes. Including the “Torridon Big 3”, plus a long day out towards Maoile Lunndaidh.

The locations of some of the photos are either guessed, or a mystery. Maybe somebody can help. Especially from the Maoile Lunndaidh day.

Start of the Ben Lomond hike
It was OK at the beginning
A miserable lunch stop. We were passed by a runner in shorts. He made it to the top and came back down before we reached the summit. He was cheerfully wearing light clothing and was unfazed by the conditions.
