This was to be the start of an incremental walk along the Devon Coast Path having already completed the Dorset Coast. It was a few months before Gordon’s move to the USA and was the last such hike that he did, but the group continued with these long weekend trips.
We started somewhere in the Torquay area (may have been Paignton). At some point we went through Dawlish and saw the relics of Brunel’s engineering at Starcross where we had to take ferry which seemed to operate at low tide only. We went through Teignmouth (my second cousin still lives there now), Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton and possibly finished in Lyme Regis where we could get the train home. All of these seaside towns seems like nice places. Ah well I have retired in Massachusetts…
Chris Kalus, John Anderson, and Dave Storey were there. I think Mike Bending was with us too, but he does not seem to be in any of the photos, unless he is the ghostly figure on one of the beach pictures – I seem to remember him commenting on what a nice place Budleigh Salterton was (it’s amazing what sticks in one’s mind). Normally Colin Hersom would be there too, but he left Cirrus at about this time and might have missed the trip. Andrew Guyler is another one that would usually be there, but I do not see his picture here.
