A rest day was needed after a tough hike. So we followed up on our plan to try to take a boat trip to the Shiants and went to Gairloch Harbour where we met “Donna from Doncaster” at one of the cruise operators. We had spoken to her from home previously. She promised to watch for a suitable day when we could join a trip out to these Islands which are very close to the outer Hebrides; to be precise they are about five miles off the shore of the Isle of Lewis. While in Gairloch, we took the 1-hour cruise around the harbour. Afterwards, we noticed an interesting example of recycling where old plastic containers had been turned into what we think are langoustine pots. These small edible lobsters are a local delicacy.

After tea we drove to Inverewe Gardens. The house was open so we spent most of our time there. Afterwards seeing the house, there was limited time left before closing so we took a brisk walk in the grounds.
