We took advantage of the ability to get permission to drive up towards the remote Glencarron Lodge. However, out of respect for the car, which had fairly high ground clearance, but not as much as a Land Rover, we stopped about 2 miles short of the trail head. There was no trouble in getting through the gate where the lock had been left open presumably by  workmen: there was forestry work in progress and further in close to the Lodge, a big backhoe was working on smoothing out the road.

The Lodge would be an excellent place to get away from the world – very remote.

We set out in the opposite direction to the Walkhighlands route because our plan was to do an “out and back ascent” and this seemed like the shortest route. We changed our mind when on the top and followed the whole cirque. The descent was not pleasant though and would have been better as an ascent, which is probably why the guide followed an anticlockwise direction.
